Description

A delicious and hearty classic lasagna recipe made with layers of noodles, marinara sauce, ground beef, and cheeses.


Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 2 cups cottage cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned; drain excess fat. Stir in marinara sauce, dried basil, salt, and pepper, then simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine cottage cheese, egg, chopped parsley, and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Mix until well blended.
  4. Spread 1/2 cup meat sauce at the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer 4 noodles, half the cottage cheese mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the meat sauce. Repeat layers once.
  5. Top with remaining noodles, sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes, until cheese is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of cheeses.
  • This dish can be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
  • Letting the lasagna rest allows it to set and is easier to cut.
