A delicious and easy recipe for homemade buttermilk raisin bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon table salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk, room temperature
- 1/4 cup raisins, plumped (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375F. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl by hand with a spoon, stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Stir in the buttermilk and raisins until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly-floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes. It should be soft and malleable but not overworked.
- Pat it into a 4-inch dough ball and place on the pan. Cut an X into the top with a serrated knife.
- Bake 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before slicing.
- Place raisins in a bowl. Pour hot water over top until raisins are completely submerged. Let sit 5 minutes or until plumped. Drain and pat dry before using.
Notes
- Feel free to add more raisins if you prefer.
- Ensure the dough is not over-kneaded to maintain a soft texture.
