Description
A comforting creamy orzo dish with ground beef, perfect for a family meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 1/2 cups water or broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease if needed.
- Add olive oil to the pan along with the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion softens and the garlic is fragrant.
- Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to deepen its flavor.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for 5 minutes.
- Add dry orzo to the pan and stir to combine. Add water or broth, and let it simmer gently until the orzo is tender, stirring occasionally.
- Lower the heat and stir in heavy cream and Parmesan cheese until creamy and thickened.
- Adjust seasoning to taste and serve warm, garnished with extra cheese or herbs if desired.
Notes
- This dish pairs well with a side salad for a complete meal.
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter option.
