Description

A delicious creamy casserole featuring shaved beef steak, fresh vegetables, and melted provolone cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shaved beef steak
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 1 large onion
  • 8 ounces provolone cheese
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil (avocado or olive oil)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons sugar-free Worcestershire sauce or coconut aminos

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bell peppers and onions by thinly slicing them.
  2. Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat with a tablespoon of avocado or olive oil. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers (and mushrooms, if using). Sauté for about 8-10 minutes until tender and slightly caramelized, then set aside.
  3. Return the skillet to medium-high heat and add another tablespoon of oil if needed. In batches, add the shaved beef steak to the hot pan, seasoning generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder as it cooks. Sear the steak until browned and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per batch, then transfer to the bowl with the sautéed vegetables.
  4. Add softened cream cheese, about half a cup of beef broth, and any additional seasonings to the bowl, then mix thoroughly with a spoon or spatula.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Spread half of the creamy steak and veggie mixture evenly over the bottom of the baking dish, then layer half of the provolone slices over it.
  7. Top with the remaining steak and veggie mixture, spreading evenly, and cover with the remaining provolone slices.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until bubbly around the edges and cheese is melted and lightly golden. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider including sliced mushrooms with the vegetables.
  • Allowing the casserole to rest after baking helps with serving.
